Position Summary

The Check Casher Portfolio Administrator oversees a portfolio of check casher relationships. The incumbent ensures that relationships are profitable while mitigating risk associated with this line of business. The Check Casher Portfolio Administrator is the primary contact for and partner of the individual business owners ensuring accounts operate within the guidelines and expectations established by the Bank.  

 

Essential Functions

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the check casher relationships including reviewing, completing, and approving the cash orders; proving the bank's cash vault; billing customers for armored car service; and processing daily overdrafts, returned deposited items, and block entries.
  • Review and prepare monthly billing for cash carrier.
  • Build productive and profitable relationships through friendly conversation, active listening, accurate needs assessment, and recommendation and sale of appropriate products and services.
  • Ensure that accounts are managed in accordance with applicable bank policies, procedures, and guidelines as well as federal, state, and local law.
  • Conduct daily account review and follow up to monitor activity and manage transaction risk.
  • Maintain and update the account binders to include required documents such as annual tax returns, licenses, FINCEN certificates, BSA/AML program documents, etc.
  • Prepare and maintain all daily, monthly, and annual account documentation.
  • Review mandatory reports and make recommendations for service/account pricing changes.
  • Collaborate with the BSA department to ensure that any abnormal account activity is reported and reviewed for potential risk/loss.
  • Advise BSA analysts on policies, procedures, regulations, and best practices relating to check cashers.
  • Conduct annual site visits on each check casher/MSB customer.
  • Communicate with people outside the organization on a regular basis including regulators, auditors, customers, attorneys, law enforcement, and the general public.
  • Maintain technical and professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, obtaining relevant professional certifications, reviewing professional publications and books, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, and staying informed of any legal, policy and procedural changes relating to check casher, risk assessment, and compliance standards, laws and regulations.
  • Keep informed of industry changes and best practices and assess the potential impact on processes and procedures.
  • Participate in relevant industry associations and professional organizations.

 

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in retail bank branch operations or the equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of the check cashing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of banking principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices to ascertain and assess customer needs, meet quality standards of customer service, and evaluate customer satisfaction.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Ability to read, understand, and analyze individual and business tax returns.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to collaborate and relate well to all kinds of people, build appropriate rapport and constructive, effective relationships, and use tact and diplomacy to handle situations comfortably.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret legal documents, governmental regulations, and professional publications.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from senior management, attorneys, vendors, government agents, and the general public.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly in order to effectively convey information so that others understand and as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time up to 75% of work hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally and less than 10% of work hours.
  • Ability to use hands to grasp, handle, or feel.
  • Ability to use computer keyboard and system to enter data and process information.
  • Ability to talk, hear, and see.
  • Ability to use telephone to communicate with others.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as teller scanner, computer, telephone, and copier.

 

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Moderate sound as in business office with office machines, computers, and people traffic.
